ugh-- well maybe Im just going to have to put them in the run during the day & bring them in at night into a brooder for 2-3 weeks.
I do have a heat lamp in the coop, but the adult hen would probably be overheated if I did that..I don't have separate coops, just one & the hen free ranges.
Im going to make this short & sweet. I have 1 hen left (around 6 years old). Her buddy hen died last week & now shes all alone. I ordered 10 four week old chicks.
Do you think I need a big integration/ separation thing going or is it probably not going to be a big issue integrating a bunch of...
Charlottem, You can buy one from Tractor Supply if you really need to.
You can ask a local building supply store if they can recommend anybody who may be able to help you, but that would probably be more expensive.
Where are you in NY?
Usually takes a couple of weeks for them to molt to a month or 2.
I just dont recall this happening last year in the coldest month of the year.....
And yes, they are not that friendly during the molting process....
Oh well, lots of warm oatmeal coming their way........
All of a sudden, I have 3 chickens seriously molting during the coldest part of winter....what the heck?
The others started in October, and are done.
Man I feel bad, especially for my beloved Buff Orpington, poor thing looks like a wreck. And its cold,.... and snowing.

My chickens are doing fine with no heat here in the Northeast. I wouldnt say they love it, but they are well fed, sheltered and watered properly.
