My husband was doing some work outside last night and missed a piece of trash when cleaning up.
I was just sitting at the dining room window sipping coffee when I saw my Dorking rooster excitedly showing the girls a choice "morsel" he'd just found and they all came running to fight over it.

**UPDATE** I removed the sutures yesterday, 16 days post op. It was clearly healed together although one end has a big scab that is likely a deep scab but she hasn't messed with it (my main concern) and I had stopped putting ointment on it because I just wanted the thing to dry.
The sutures WERE...
Well of course an MD would view my atrocious handiwork first 😂 Well I did start out with individual sutures but quickly became a seamstress with one long seam because of time as well as feeling like it would hold the gash closed better. I plan on using disinfected nail Clippers to snip each...
Long story a bit shorter (and please, Im not here for condemnation. I love my birds)
One of my colored Dorking hens had a crop compaction and went on to also develop sour crop with it nearly a month ago.
I tried everything....the oil, gentle massages and syringing baking soda water for days. Her...
So a little bantam English Game hen hid some eggs and incubated them. I found them the day before hatch started and candled them. Out of five, three were fertile. Two babies hatched yesterday and when I checked this morning the last egg was chirping loudly and rocking! I expected a baby tonight...
Hello! I'm new to bantams besides a couple silkies that I have. My sister talked me into some chicks from the assorted bantams bin at TSC and there were no possible breeds listed and no hatchery info. Any ideas what breed and sex they might be? Chick #1 is silver with clean yellow legs. It was...
They look like bantam Easter Eggers to me. Rose comb is normal. Wait awhile to be sure if they are roos though. I've been "sure" before only to be wrong.
Sorry for your experience with C.H. That seems to be their standard operating procedure..blame you when they send sick birds. Wish you the best with the rest of them :/
No, I believe it is Farm Innovator or something..got it at Tractor Supply and I hate it :/ I'm afraid if a chick hatches and keeps running into it and moving it that the temp will spike or lower. Its very touchy and was a pain in the arse when eggs were in turner.
On day 18 when putting into lockdown, what am I suppose to do with the egg thermometer that sets on top of the eggs? Do I take it out? Also mine has a digital one that is attached and hangs down. Can I put that on the floor of the incubator or does it need to stay on the top?
