I began my journey in January, after my husband and daughter brought home 6 baby chicks, and 3 laying Rhode Islaind Hens that was going to be their hobby! Lol. Needless to say, it has turned into more of a hobby for me! We currently have 2 Orpingtons, 3 leghorns, 2 Rhode Islaind Reds, 2 Star Reds (I think that's the name), 2 bantom roosters, 5 mixed chicks from the chickens stated above, 3 silkies, and 2 Polish Hens or maybe, could be roosters. Not sure yet, and 1 more egg in the incubator ready to hatch. Our Orpington went broody, but once 1egg hatched under her, and we gave her 4 others from the incubator, she quit sitting, so we had to move the rest over, because she turned into "mother hen" and immediately started teaching the baby chicks. We also have a yellow lab, a yorkie and a Shi tzu. Our lab watches over our chickens very well! They will lay down beside her while she is resting. We love animals, and I am obsessed with watching my chickens!
