Oh ok.
I'm starting to look up wet fowl pox....I should ask the feed store where I got her if she would have been inoculated for fowl pox.
There are no pigeons where I live, but plenty of small birds that get into the pen.
I tried to cleanup the growth/wound and put some polysporin on it.
I looked inside her mouth. Kindof a yellowish version of cottage cheese.
Didn't seem like much of a foul odor, at about 3 inches away.
She is not eating pellets.
I mashed up some of her feed with a little water and mixed in some yogurt. She ate quite a bit. Then drank lots of water.
She is not...
Hi Everyone
I have a small flock of 4 chickens and my older one has developed a growth of sorts on the edge of her lower beak. I think it has developed over the last 2 weeks.
She is a Barred Rock, probably about 6 years old. She seems alert and comes out to see me, same as usual. And she is...
My chickens thought yogurt was weird at first, then they got to REALLY like it. They were stepping in it, it was all over their beaks and faces... it was hysterical, a big success all round!
Seems like my broody Amelia spent ALL day in her favorite nesting box. And your're right, she fluffs up when I go near.
Finally at the end of the day I decided "ok, time for you to stretch your legs".
I got her out of her nesting box and put her out in the run with the others. Brought the feed...

One weird thing: they LOVE garlic skins but wont touch onion skins...
Good idea to give them the tasty stuff in the evenings!
Wow - ok...
I was thinking "fine, if she wants to be broody, I'll just let her be broody".
But if she keeps going too long and doesn't seem to be eating, I'll try getting her out of it. I have a good cage for that...
Thanks!
Oh, that's so interesting! Never thought of that - that she might be broody.
Mind you, everything they do is SO interesting, and their behaviors and dynamics are constantly evolving :-)
Its true, she is fluffed up. Even when she's walking around, she's fluffed up and her head settled down into...
Having chickens is a wonderful new experience for me. I have 4 and LOVE them. They started laying 3 or 4 months ago.
One of them is an Americauna and for the last couple of days she has been spending most of her time in a nesting box, even late in the afternoon and early evening. Which is very...
