Need to get rid of FLYS!!! they are constantly on the chickens and ducks food. Any ideas?

If you want an organic fly control, Arbico Organics has a good program. http://www.arbico-organics.com/category/fly-control-program I haven't tried it, but I use several of their other products and I think the company is very good. But these fly parasites are pretty cool. I think this may...

When do you give them a dust bath and what do you use?

I dumped DE in with my sand and dirt and there have been no issues. Several pounds at a time. People seem to be afraid of DE, but I dust my girls weekly, the dust flies and I breathe it and they breathe it also. I have never experienced even 1 problems, this is the food grade DE. It is not...

Chicks being introduced to the flock

I thought I would put up a quick video of my hen Bug, introducing her chicks to the dominant hen, Molly. She would attack all the other chickens, as she is the 2nd in command girl. But, with Molly, she allowed her very close. This was shot last Sat. We have let the chicks be out with Bug...

I'm so sorry. This was my first incubator hatch and I got 2 of 11... So, I feel you. I think I need a humidity gauge, as I struggled with the humidity. I learned a ton about where to put my water (under the back vent) so its easy to fill. Also I think I need a better themomitor, as they all...

Yes, how did everything turn out. I am all crossed fingers, legs and arms for you! I was almost ready to end the chick experiment today, then when I came home from some errands I have 2 chicks pipping! None of the others are doing anything, but that will give everyone another couple of...

Ok, so far my hen has only hatched 2 of the 6 and none so far of my incubator have done anything. I don't know how long to leave the eggs under her, she is starting to be out and about with the 2 babies... still crossing my fingers that a few more eggs hatch.

Too true! It was funny last year when my broody "Bug" hatched out chicks. At about week 8 she didn't love them anymore and she went back to her normal mean self. The poor roo was chased off and force to stay very far away from her or she would literally pull his feathers out. She was good...

Thanks CJ, A turkey baster, that is a good idea. Next time I incubate I am going to do some things differently. I like the added reservoirs for extra water. And congrats on a good hatch. My hen is happy with her 100% success rate, I am at 0/11... I think I like eggs under the hen better...

Good idea, will try that. Of course my darn chicken has hatched her eggs today!!!! 20 days, seriously! This just goes to show that Mother nature is better than an incubator at hatching. She is clearly super mom. That leaves me with the problem that I was going to put all my hatchlings...

I need some help. I went into lockdown yesterday and I filled my water troughs, and even added paper towels soaked in water, and it's getting dry in the incubator... I know I am not supposed to open the incubator, but it will need more water. Ideas?!?!
