We have loved every second since we have had our chickens. Not a bad comment about the whole experience! ANyway, my 2 kids (just 4 and just 6 years old) ALWAYS want to hold or at least try to pick up the chickens. Some are easier to catch then others so the chickens end up being chased a lot...
everyday there is so much poop in the nesting boxes and our eggs are getting dirty - yuck!
i heard that it is probably because the chickens are sleeping in the coop (whick some of them are).
we put another roost in the and blocked off the nesting boxes for the night.
we'll see how that goes...
Hi - i am SW PA too. I have been looking on Craiglists and when I looked up Delaware craiglist and Maryland crasilists, I found a lot more chickens for free or sale.

i crack up when it rains...i have one silkie (silkies are not waterproof) and she always looks like a completely dishelved mess. Flat feathers, mud throughout her white body and spikey poof on her head. SO FUNNY!
Well I did it! Saturday, we let them all out and I felt a little like a collie herding the crew so they didn't go too far. But after i relaxed a little, it was great! They found a big dirt spot and found about 50 worms....they were going crazy!
Today was even better. I was working around...
