Hi
I had a 7 month old light brahma hen drop dead. She had been laying as far as I know, but I'm not sure. I have 2 others that look the same and I can't tell them apart.
I think it is the one who was making this funny noise. She had been doing this high pitched squeak now and then, (maybe a...
OK, so the babies will hatch soon. Then I will be having the babies with their mother in a little coop. How do I feed them? Give them all chick food including Mom? Put out chick food low down and layer food higher where only Mom can reach it? What's the way it's supposed to go?
Thank you for the...
Hi
I have my first broody hen ever. She has been sitting on a dozen eggs and I think it's about time for something to happen. Just curious though, if the hatching rate doesn't turn out so well, I was thinking about grabbing a few chicks from TSC and slipping them under her once I am sure that no...
I dusted her and the nest with diatomatious earth. Will that solve the problem? What else do I need to do?
Also, some of them got on me do I need to be worried about my dog or cat getting infested ?
Thank you!!!
Hi,
I have 2 buff orpington roosters that were born in June and raised together, along with pullets. They are full grown now and acting like real roosters . One of them is the clear dominant one. He chases the #2 roo all over, ALL DAY, every day. The #2 guy does nothing anymore but frantically...
OK, I saw the above mentioned article.
But I still am not sure. Everyone says, well ventilated but not drafty. ???
How does one know the difference? My homebuilt thrown-together-out-of-old-barnwood coop has windows that shut loosely, not tight at all, and slight (1-2 in) gaps along the top...
Thanks Chickenpearl for responding!
9 of them have pretty much all their feathers. The other is a second roo, he's good sized but hasn't got as many feathers yet.
I plan to have them in the doghouse for the night, and cover the entrance to keep out drafts. Sound OK?
I have 10 BO chicks that are 4 wks old. They live in a dog pen in the house, but have been outside during the day in a small fenced in area (lined w/ chicken wire), whenever it's warm enough. They LOVE being outside, and hate coming in, but today they let me know they've had enough.
As soon as...
One more dead today, and the other one will probably die tonight.
The seller insisted they were fine when she had them, and refused to take them back. Not cool. I told her they were dying too fast and I couldn't in good conscience bring them back anyway. She didn't care.
So much for that.
I have contacted the person I got them from, no reply yet. So I haven't killed any yet. But today 2 more are looking bad. They are very lethargic, not eating, and basically sleeping all day. One looks like she's gasping for air once in a while. I think I might find them dead tomorrow.
You know...
Well, I ended up calling Peter Brown and he suggested it was best to cull the whole flock and disinfect the coop. ASAP.
Also, he explained how awful the antibiotics are, that you are technically not able to eat any eggs again after you give it to them. How terrible. I never would have done it...
Thank you!
I had just cleaned out the coop yesterday. Not disinfected, just cleaned, and put in fresh straw. I looked over everything very well and I didn't see any blood, and haven't seen any this whole time, just on the dead one's beak.
I think what they are doing is sneezing, not coughing...
Sorry I forgot to add, they eat regular layer mash, with fentrell poultry nutribalance, and calcium, also vegetable scraps that are OK on the treat list . But again, only for the last month.
