Live in Manteca, Ca. We got 3 chicks April 12 that were supposed to be pullets. Turns out 1 so far is a cockerl. He's a Coo Coo Maran. Lovely but if it crows it goes in our town. Free if your interested. Hate for him to end up in someones pot.

We hit 104 the other day and filled a tub w/ water and put our girls in one at a time. Some hung out, some jumped right out, but all stopped panting and seemed more comfortable.

Now it's not the heat, it's the fireworks! Every single time I look at my chickens, I wonder where their hands are!! Seriously. And on nights like this, they could use them. This also begs the question: where those "chicken fingers" come from?!

Girls are hot. Just wondering what other people do to cool down the chickens? I threw out a bunch of crushed ice yesterday and they had a little but mostly not amused. We have a lot of cement around our patio so we sprayed that down a couple of times. They do have shady area under bamboo but...

I was gonna say the same thing. One of our chickens loves to mess around and eat black widows. It's her hobby. So far she's been lucky not getting bit. Our dog hasn't been so lucky however. Benadryl worked in that instance. Can you even give benadryl to chickens?

:DWe have 3 Americunas and a Barred Rock. They are all great mousers. Maybe your crew was just full at that moment. I didn't think ours were catching any either til one evening just before sunset I saw my Barred Rock w a tail hanging out of her mouth. Sure enough there was a little bloody mess...
