To cull or not, cat got the chick

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I've been busy getting ready for the coming storm. The chick is still doing good. No obvious signs of infection and the exposed muscle seems to be scabbing over/ healing not entirely sure but it doesn't look infected. She is still eating drinking and wants to get...

To cull or not, cat got the chick

I'm not sure how old the chick is as I just got them from my nephew. One of the cats got the chick and I got it away from him. Her left leg is skinned all the way to her thigh and she has a bone deep wound on her right side and her comb is also injured. She's acting fine, in a crate in the...

Sponsored Post It's HOT - Keep your birds feeling their best!

I bought a small child's wading pool for my 4 year old birds. The will play in it to keep their feet cooler. The temps here get over 100 in the summer and I always make sure they have plenty of water and shade. I will also give them fruits/veggies with high water content

    Where to buy Chicken Saddles?

I dont remember where I read it on here but another suggestion is to get a baby bib and put it on backwards. I have one hen who was bald on the backside and had three tail feathers left, I went to the dollar store and got a two pack of bibs.

    Selling EE eggs

I have 9 girls laying, I get 1 pink, 1 bluish green and 7 others that vary in shades of green. I have no problems with people wanting the eggs, then again I am in a remote/rural area and people here are mostly farmers and I am not the only one with EE's

I am about 3 hours north of Amarillo in Colorado, but my husband and I would be interested in attending (that is if my work schedule would allow for it).

If my thinking is right, then I likely had three separate layers for the eggs, and since I have 11 hens, I have no idea who is the guilty girls.

Silly birds prefer to be out at night

there are two heat lamps, so yes there is light at night. They had been doing just fine going in on their own, and once it got cold at night they quit going in. There isn't a high level of moisture or drafts, so Im not sure what gives.

Silly birds prefer to be out at night

If anyone has dealt with this please let me know what you did. I have 21 ameraucanas that are 16 weeks old. They have an 8x4 coop with three 4' roosts and one 2 1/2 roost. There are 2 250 watt heat lamps that can keep the temp in the high 20's low 30's when the wind chill is below 0. However...

    Ameracauna chicks and mature chickens

pips&peeps : McMurray does not sell ameraucanas, they sell easter eggers. Any hatchery sells easter eggers. Ameraucanas should lay blue or blueish/minty green eggs only. Here is a page from the Ameraucana Breeders Club with lots of pertinent information: http://ameraucana.org/faq.html Im...

    Ameracauna chicks and mature chickens

My little flock came from McMurry Hatchery. They sell them as araucana's but they mostly seem to be ameraucanas. From the reading I have done, True Araucana's are a rare breed and are tough to get ahold of. They are the tufted, rumpless birds. If I recall correctly, the birds with both genes...
