So clawstar, I am interested in getting a pair of button quail. I believe they will do fine with the societies and zebras and may help me keep my food source (seed scatter) down to avoid feeding the mice. Do you know a breeder in WA?
I used a plastic coated hardware cloth that I bought on line. What I read was with hookbills that tend to chew, regular hardware cloth could pose a problem but that with softbills like finches it shouldn't be a problem.
I have an outdoor aviary in Washington state with societies and zebras. Everything guineafowling said was right on! I have a flat panel heater set to come on at dusk and off at dawn all winter and wrapped the exposed sides with plastic. The biggest problem I have had is mice! A Cooper's hawk...
I'm in the burbs, too. Same set up - girls never go over the privacy fence and occasionally do hop the wrought iron to visit the patio. Wonder why they love that patio so much
I am in the 'burbs with a 5 foot privacy fence. I have a 3 foot wrought iron fence to keep the girls off the patio. Some days they go over the 3 foot- they love the patio. But the never go over the privacy fence.
I was told it was a barred rock but by looking at pics I think that (s)he is a mix. We have heard some crow-y noises but I really like her and want to make sure before I have to get rid of he(r).
Hi- I'm new to this and my first crisis at about 11 weeks one of the girls is crowing! I live in the city so roosters definitely can't stay. Any hope that she is in fact a she and not a 'he'?
