We have nursed two girls through eagle wounds. Despite having a very protected run...they are clever hunters. In addition to what has already been mentioned....we brought our girls indoors and crated them with a puppy pad rather than any bedding that could get into the wound. After cleaning...
She looks fine and laid a perfectly beautiful egg this morning! Thank you for your suggestions. I will be keeping a close eye on her for the next while.
Thanks so much. She settled in to roost with the rest tonight. I will check for an egg and get some extra calcium in her in the morning and will bring her inside to keep an eye on for a couple days. I usually give my girls a nice warm Epsom soak bath if they become egg bound. Would that be...
Needing advice for my Ameraucana girl. We noticed her limping very slightly yesterday. I checked her over and could not see or feel anything usual. Today I notice she was still limping very slightly so had another check and saw this at her vent. When I examined a small amount of pretty much...
The first one I am not sure of. Leaning toward roo but no copper feathers coming in. Second pullet, third and fourth roo, fifth is an EE....I am thinking pullet, sixth pullet? Appreciate the input of those who know the breed....first time for Marans for me. I hatched these guys....well my...
I have a 2 1/2 week hatch which I will be sharing with a friend. I have hatched and raised chickens for ten years now but Maran and Ameraucana hatches are new to me.
Marans, Ameraucanas and one Easter Egger.
The eggs came from two different breeders and the EE is from a Black Copper Maran...
Good that she is laying...that eliminates some potential problems.
Poop-toe is non life threatening so that is another eliminated.
Isolating her and keeping an eye on her is a good suggestion.
Keep us updated. I am cheering extra hard for your little girl as I lost a lovely SLW pullet last week
Sorry...don't mean to freak you out...just that they can be sicker than we sometimes think and early intervention is always helpful.
Has she always had that black area on her toe or could that be something?
She is beautiful...hope she is on the mend soon.
Has she been laying okay? I have a hen right now that we are nursing through what we are pretty sure is internal egg laying. Her first sign was limping. As chickenzoo says maybe it is because she is feeling weak. Good luck getting to the bottom of things. It is worrisome when we don't know.
Argh...no antibiotics at the feed store. I have to work early Tuesday but hubby is going to pop into the vet to pick some Baytril. Darn long weekend.
For now she is resting nicely in the cat crate in the family room. She seems to be quite interested in being the centre of all and very alert...
