  1. Here is a more natural method for raising baby chicks which is closest to being with a mother hen. I use a Sunbeam king size constant heat heating pad with a 3 heat setting thermostat. I take chicken wire an make an arch which I put under the pad. I then duct tape the pad to it to make it a firm arch. I encase it all in a cotton pillowcase and tape it around where the cord comes out and also not to let baby chicks wander in. The pillow case is somewhat loose so chicks have the feel of nuzzling under a mother hen.
