I love your pic of the colored eggs. What should I get to replicate? Have room for around 12, so I should order 24 on the assumption that I'll get 1/2 boys, which I will eat.
Tx much,

I am a minority who had guineys and chickens (3 guineys, 8 chickens) that grew up together but couldn't get along. The guineys were terrible bullies and would randomly terrorize the chickens, chase them and hurt them, so I ate the guineys. Maybe mine were just a mean bunch. They were...
I ate my guineys. They were terrorizing the chickens non-stop and I didn't have another place for them. Quite tasty. Sorry they had to go.

I used one large stall for chickens by covering the openings (metal bars and ceiling - the other sides were solid) with 2" x 2" woven wire. Fortunately we did not have weasels, which would have gotten in through the 2x2 openings. Then I made the chickens a small enclosure inside the stall...
Beautiful setup!
Just a question: if you have netting on top of the pen, are you going to put the chickens to bed every night? Or have an automatic door? I have a pen similar to yours and the coons just climb right in and make a tasty meal. So I'm thinking of putting 2 electric fence wires...
Well, duct tape is good for everything. I put duct tape (with tape protecting the sticky part against the back where there are no feathers). Just protected the feather area with double tape and stuck the sticky tape loosely down the sides in front of the wings - around 4" wide. Then added a...
Just wear gloves. Bathtub comes to mind if you don't have a scrub sink. Have fun!
Or, you could wash outside. Use an immersion heater (at a horse store or catalog), heat up a big tub of water (assuming you don't have hot water near the coop), and give her a bath in a smaller tub. Tractor...
Beautiful! And I like your chickens too.
My dog bites wire runs and rips a hole in them. With hw mesh he scratches until the links are broken...hope no dogs get into your tractor...I bet your chickens won't tear it up.

I had an old mare who dropped a LOT of weight over one winter. Think she had some kind of virus; she got laminitis very badly in the spring, although she wasn't on rich grass, and looked like a scarecrow. She was so thin that her legs didn't touch in back at all. We treated the laminities...
OK. I got Chrome and the latest Java and that did speed things up considerably. Note that even if one has chrome, it doesn't work if you start IE!!
Thanks a lot,

I have the latest Chrome, performance is fine with other sites and horrible here...really painful and not fun at all anymore on BCY. Is there any way to turn off the gratuitous graphics? Unless the site speeds up, I'll have to find other ways to entertain myself.
Regret to be a whiner, but...
Hi Everyone:
My neighbors have a lot of chickens (1/2 mile away, so I'm not worried that my chickens will catch anything), and the neighbors won't use chemicals. They report that their chickens all have lice.
I think in time all their flock could die...is this correct? What should they do...
Mine moulted a month or so ago in Northern VA...feathers back & the girls are venturing out of the house, however no eggs. How long before they start to lay again? Should I give them extra protein? They like cottage cheese, but I haven't been giving them much extra stuff except the usual...
