Thanks for the comments and replies. We are alternating between vaseline and bag balm. I read that vaseline dries out there scales/skin really bad so i thought adding bag balm to the mix would help. It's anti-bacterial as well so that should help.
Tonight they get a warm water scrub with a...

Hello BYC and friends
We are dealing with a Scaly Mite issue. We have 10 hens and 2 roosters. 4 to 5 of them have it visibly and a few pretty badly.
This is what we will be doing, starting tonight. Any other suggestions for improving the plan would be appreciated.
But i have a question...
omg bemba!!! that is fantastic!! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures and their story with us :) How wonderful!! :) If we had the experience we would stuff our guinea hens eggs under one of our broody chickens because she is one of our roosters favourites lol maybe next year :)
Thanks Firekin. Joe is not overly enthusiastic about taking the wee baby peacocks. Maybe one day once we have more room and separate housing away from the chickens and guinea's.
A friend of a friend just had baby peacocks hatch and she thought of me and our BYC flock and Guinea's and asked if we wanted a few.
I have to talk to my husband about it as i think they would be a great addition to our family but i need to research and learn about them first.

Welcome bunny. BYC is a fantastic website and when we became new chicken parents last spring this website was a godsend!! check all the forums and do some reading here. You will most likely find all the answers to your questions somewhere. :) Everyone her is so helpful and friendly. good luck!!
I think I know Debbie...we are going to the grocery store today so I will have a look at the name tags but I think I remember chatting with a Debbie there!! i'll keep ya psoted. My man lives here permanently and has been here 7 years. I will ask him if knows any of your family. :)
Thanks Arielle. We are new at this as well and its all really an experiment. I just hope our experiment doesn't make them suffer but we will be watching as they free range and grow. They will be culled one by one as they reach a decent size. If one or two are doing well we just keep them until...
oh poor thing :( hopefully she gets on with them soon and given a chance to grow a bit a more. :) It will be interesting to see how our layers do with our meaties once we let them start free ranging.
