Hello, Our chicks are only two weeks old. They are being kept in a locked coop with a heat lamp. If I make a very small chicken run near the door of the coop are they old enough to allow them to go outside if the temp is above 80? Thank you!

I hope so, Cluckstar! We had some Delaware hens a while back and they were our best layers. Though our rooster is part Delaware as well. He is a Delaware, RIR and Araucana mix.

Seems like it would be fine to add to bedding and a great example of recycling. As far as bedding goes, we have recently tried sand in the chick brooder and it's great! We bought the construction grade sand and change it out every other day. It produces much less dust than other bedding...

Thanks for the input, Sharon. I would really like her to be part of the flock, but she is soooo tame with people, yet seems scared to death of chickens. She is not even afraid of our 3 dogs or the barn cat. I will give her a little more time out with the flock, but if she continues to be missing...

Will do. She does let one of the hens near her as long as I'm there, too. I'm just worried when she leaves the flock at night. Thank you!
