Thanks!
I know the waist will still smell, but cleaning the shavings and poo out of the waterer and the spillage are the most irritating parts for me. In part because I feel like I need to clean the fountain multiple times daily to keep it healthy.
Because we are just getting serious about...
I have brooded chicks in the basement, and hated the work and the smell of two dozen. I swore I would only ever use a broody mom.
My husband wants to dramatically increase flock size over the next 8 months as part of a holistic multi-species intensive grazing system (yes, chickens are a gateway...
A pekin hatched by one of my hens earlier this week got left behind today. When I found it, the duckling let me pick it up. No peeps! On closer inspection it was blowing saliva bubbles and had a clogged nose. I took it to the waterer--tried to clean it up and let it dunk and swish it's head...
lotsacluckin--one of two posible dads is a silver duckwing oegb...but that is almost exactly what the chick looks like! She is still a little week as a scuffle between hens crushed her egg on hatch morning--I thought she was a gonner!
I have been busy and I'm probably hundreds of pages behind again, but had to give this update--
My duck, Miss Lydia, sat on 7 eggs, most of which mysteriously disappeared, but this weekend she hatched one perfect little pekin! I also have a half grown pekin Wiggings hatched a while ago and two...
My hen hatched 3 mixed chicks yesterday. One is black, one is typical chick yellow, but one is white. What's up with that? I've never seen a white chick.
My first duckling hatched last night about 8pm. Just now I moved the chicken mother, ducklings, and unhatched eggs to a nest on the floor and I noticed the first little duck's one foot is tightly curled under, and using light pressure I could not straiten it out.
Can anything be done for him...
I'm thinking of putting rocks/bricks in the kiddie pool so the chicks could climb back out if they jumped in. The ducks will be able to clean up it that while they are confined.
I might not have explaned the set up. The 4 chicks are with a mama, and the chickens and ducks shair a coop (with...
That sounds about right, thank you!
They use to free range and had a little streem with 4 or 5 pools deep enough to dive in, but the eye problems started shortly after I began locking them in the run until I get home at 4. In the run there is just a chicken waterer and they can't really wash...
I know you really need a pic to know for sure, but my ducks are skittish, so I haven't been able to snap a good one.
My female pekin has a brownish area under/in front of her eyes. At first I worried she was sick with something nasty, but on an up close inspection (which she hated) it really...
Thanks! Yes, she sat and hatched the yellow cochin Tuesday night, then Thursday night I gave her 4 more. I put them back to bed in the cage, but i would love to move broody #2 in to it to protect her eggs...we'll see where she wants them to sleep tomorrow.
