Sorry it took me so long to follow up.
I did as recommended above - I shut the hens in the coops for just over a week (with food and water inside the coop). After their confinement period, all the chickens now head up to the coop when the sunlight starts fading! Problem solved - Thanks...
Since they have been living in the coop for a few months now, should I just put some food and water in the coop and then shutter them all in therefore about a week? Seems easy enough to give it a try.

Hello All,
To make a long story short, we have a 18 month old Orpington hen who has lost her two coop-mates back in the spring (we started with three last summer and lost two since). This past summer, we got 4 more chicks, which have grown up to be 6 month old (EE, two Wyndottes, and a RIR)...
Hello,
My wife and I built a new chicken coop (4'x4' Purina Mills design) with a run (12'x4') a few months back. Our 4 hens have been living in the coops happily for a month or two with one exception - three of the chicken will not go up into the coop at night. Instead, these three hens pile...
I'm looking to do the same thing. I plan on using exterior paint to weatherproof the outside of our coop, but I am wondering if I should use a wood sealer for all the other wood (inside and outside of the coop).
Looking forward to the responses...

Hey Folks,
I'm going to start building our modified Purina coop this weekend and I wanted to put in a window on the side of the coop (both for the birds to get additional lighting and for us to be able to look inside.
As such, I wanted to ask other forum users what they have used for...
Hey Folks,
I realized this may be a bit redundant, but I can't seem to find it on the webpage at the moment. What are the recommended square foot requirements for non-bantam chickens in a coop and run?
I remember hearing 4 sq ft per bird in the coop, but was that when the birds are...
Hey Folks,
With my flock outgrowing the Saltbox pre-fab coop we have been using for the last year, I'm looking into either:
1. Building a new coop with a run (Pro: plenty of coop space; Con: much more costly)
2. Keep the existing coop but build a much larger run (Pro: lest costly; Con...
Looks great - this is the basic plan that we are thinking about expanding to.
A couple questions if you'll allow them:
1. What type of fencing is being used on the side of the "A-frame" as well as under the coop?
2. Are the 4 footer-posts of the coop (i.e. the legs) driven into the group...
There is some great information in this thread - thank you all for sharing.
I am in the process of planning a coop expansion as I have another 4 hens in the brooder.
