Yea, him and his 3 hens are seperate from the rest of the young flock. They both get differnt free range time, and everything seems fine now.... So far
Makes sense, i hate to get rid of him cause he was such a boy right up til the other day.
And now the older hens are kinda being mean.
What happened all of a sudden to cause this aggression
What i dont understand is that the roo in question has been as loyal as a dog. He was just the perfect gaurd of the flock.
When i hand fed him treats he would take the time to pass it out to everyone to ensure everyone got some (even the two he killed)
The spring hatch was from april, the late spring hatch was just before june.
And the rooster did it again yesterday, and this time it was one of the young silkies! I cant tell yet which are roos or not out of both batches lol. I have him seperated now and hes not liking it.
And i should have...
I need some advice.
I have a small flock of 16 chickens. 4 are 2 years old all easter eggers (including the roo). 4 are from a spring hatch all ee. And 8 are a late spring hatch of silkie/ee.
The whole flock has been together since may, with not a single issue. The roo always brought everyone...
Ok cool, thanks everyone. I was wondering if it was unusual or not lol. Now ive got 15 eggs in lockdown and 3 of my hens are brooding a clutch of eggs each (one silkie hen.) cant wait, ill have tons of cute chicks
I have had easter eggers before, and currently have 5. Every ee chick i have ever seen has that chipmunk pattern on them. I hatched 3 ee chicks 2 days ago, two are almost pure white/silverish and one is mostly black/gray. Is this unusual? Mabey all 3 are male? What are your thoughts?
Im almost 99 percent sure it was a raccoon. Same exact thing happened to my ducks, had to act fast before my chickens got murdered. I set out a few live traps and got two raccoons.
Sorry it took me so long to reply.
The little fella didnt make it. He was just too weak. He dried out good, his little bump shrunk alot and then he just gave up
Did the little duckling make it? I am experiencing the same thing right now. It hatched 6 days late, and your pictures look exactly like my duck, except the little bulge is a bit smaller. Any advise?
