Thank you, everyone!! Any chance that Buff Orp roosters are relatively quiet? :D Santa Fe technically allows roosters, but there's an ordinance about noise from animals that, it seems to me, would trip me up if I tried to keep most roosters.

This is perfect! I slipped two TSC chicks under my hen who'd been broody for 3 weeks, and she's accepted them just fine! The new little family is in a little cage in the big coop now -- my only worry is when to open the cage door and let them mix with my other 3 hens.

Wow. I just have to add my thanks to all of you for this thread, which I have just now finished reading all the way through.(whew!) I thought I had really done my homework 3 years ago when we got our first 3 chickens, but I somehow overlooked -- or spaced out -- completely on the whole worm...
