Only have the water system to finish in my new coop , The girls just spent there first night in it.
I have a 15x8 foot metal roof that is is guttered into a downspout with a Leaf-eater filter on it that feeds a 30 ish gallon barrel for water storage.
Now I am planning on having a 1" pvc...
Everything still needs to be trimmed. I am still working on it when I can. Currently 8" of snow covering everything.
The reason I am worried about them getting on the window when it is opened is that one thing I have learned from the previous birds I have experience with is that if they can...
I already have a thread going for my coop build but I have a question that i figure would get more attention here. I currently only have one window. Do I need to add another on the opposing wall? the reason I have not done so Is that I do not want the birds to have somewhere to get up on to...
well I was planning on working on it this weekend and i dumped another 8" of snow on us. Couldn't even get my car up the hill to get to my subdivision. Its supposed to rain on Tuesday so I might try to at least get the doors hung and mesh put up tomorrow then i can start on the sandwich boards...
just an update in case anyone was wondering not much has been done i got the metal roof panels on but no trim and we got hit with winter currently 8 inches of snow in the roof with a high of 12 with 30 mph windgust so I was planning on getting the hardware cloth and trim going today but thats...
All the kreg holes will be covered. Anywhere there is mesh there will be a board that sandwiches the mesh between boards to secure it in addition to staples.
I'm not sure how I would of done this without the kreg. This is done with a k5 and the HD jig.
The hinges are that way because there...
had a productive day. was 40 ish so i worked out of the basement and garage as much as possible.
Got the pop door in place, 12" wide and about 13" high.
I also wrapped the coop in paneling, tried to put the hinges on the front wall section. Because I am not using a framed in door...
Right now it is just 1/2" plywood, 1/2 was a dollar a sheet more then 11/32 so It made sense to make it stronger. The rafters are not evenly spaced over the coop but the max distance is 2 feet. I will be covering it with 29 gauge ABC imperial rib metal roofing.
The farm store near me ran out...
Great weather this weekend, got some more work done.
the entire front side of the coop will be on hinges, and will also have the nesting boxes in it. Due to the slop of the yard this was the only real option in order to make i accessible. I got as much work done as I could, before...
Had a couple hours of decent weather.
notice the horizontal boards below the roof rafters. these made life simple to install the rafters ,I am not sure if I am going to remove them or not after I finish the roof.
First thing tomorrow is to trim the vertical pieces above the roof...
Well tonigt I learned I can heat my un insulated garage with my 2 cheap radiator heaters. So I got the main walls done, well almost done. I have 2 little pieces to put on but my pocket hole bit broke for some reason
I went with a 2' drop across the 6' roof. Which is a bit over kill nut...
Rain water is not much of a concern in that spot. Its directly behind the house water runs down the sides of the house(which is a different spring project), When I moved in to this place in june there was a play set in back that I gave to the neighbors across the street and the mulch that was...
Well the chicks will be at my local farm store in a couple weeks and I had a couple of days with decent weather so I started work.
I plan on having 6 hens max but will be starting with 4. after looking through the coops on here I had a drawing with what i wanted and the size it would then i...
Been looking through coop designs and articles about coop insulation and ventilation requirements.
I understand that the coop needs a good deal of ventalation especially during the winter. I also understand that I need to insulate the coop for the winter..
Most designs I see have the...
Thank you for the replies.
Tings have gotten complicated as the spot I need to put this at is on a sewer easement and the pipe is less then 2 feet underground so I have to make it semi movable and the concrete slab is out. I still plan on trying this but will do it with treated lumber and...
