    Layer turned Brooder not eating

I have a black australorp (Moe) that has decided to be a broody hen. We have no roosters so those eggs will never hatch! I keep taking her off the nesting box and now she won't eat and has isolated herself from the rest of the girls. What should I do now???

    our first triple yolker!

Hi all! Check out this huge egg we got from one of our hens. My husband cracked it open for his breakfast recently and found a triple yolk egg! We've had several double yolk eggs since then but they are becoming less frequent. /Users/janisconlon/Pictures/Photo Booth/iPhoto...

    First eggs for pullets

My pullets are just starting to lay. I also have 6 hens. I checked the box today and we had 9 eggs. One of them was huge though! I mean, bigger than a jumbo, and it had a cracked spot at one end. It was so large that it could have been 2! Is this possibly from a pullet that didn't lay the...

    Moulting or boredom feather pulling

I'm pretty new at raising chickens. We have 12 now (our maximum capacity) of different ages. Some of them seem to have stopped laying. Fortunately the pullets are starting to lay now. I haven't seen an excessive number of feathers laying around. How do I know for sure if the big girls are...

Big question, why did all of you new chicken owners get chickens?

I'm from the New River Valley in Virginia. I got chickens for the eggs. There's nothing like farm fresh eggs for breakfast and for baking purposes! I have named all of my girls. 5 of them are laying (I started out with adults) and now I have 3 pullets that are about 3 months old. The little...

    I'm a newbie!

Thanks all! Oh, btw, I have 2 Rhode Island Reds (Rosie and Annie) and 2 Americaunas (Joanie and Lucy). I just added 2 Buckeye chicks and 1 black australorp chick (the chicks are about 5 or 6 weeks already). I'm not really sure about the chicks but I fell prey to the cuteness lure at the store.

    I'm a newbie!

Hi All, I have lots of questions, but the first one is: how old do pullets need to be so I can put them in with my big girls. I have 3 pullets, about 5 weeks old each, and 4 mature hens.
