Help. I think my new chick has a leg problem

.First time incubating and I've had nothing but problems. I did manage to get 2 out of 17 to hatch. I now know it was an issue with ventilation. Out of the two this one hatched with what seems to be something wrong with her leg. She's been laying down with her leg out stretched most of the...

    3 day shipping?

Three days is the maximum for chicks to be shipped. They should be fine. For the first three days they can be sustained with their yolk sac alone. As soon as you get them they will need food and water immediately. I live in the northeast and mine are also taking 3 days this year.

    Adding Wood Shavings

How about using something else. I was thinking maybe the small chunky bark pieces some people use as mulch or in their decorative flower beds. They are heavy and won't blow away as easily. What kind of thing SCREAMS at night?

I would say a Fischer cat also. I have them in the back of my woods and they make a horrible scream, just like a baby screaming. These are nasty predators, and very elusive. They are hardly ever seen at all. We have had an increase in the numbers of them in our area. I have had the pleasure of...

Can a hen lay more than 1 egg per day?

Here is my question: I currently have 8 RIR's. I usually collect my eggs by noon and then at the end of the night around 9pm. Today at 11:30am I found 1 egg in one box and there were hens in the other two so I left them alone. Tonight, I collected 8 more eggs. I am positive there were no eggs in...

    Free range advice

Thank you all for the advice. She did come back home tonight. It was already dark and when I went to close the coop up, I counted all 10. From now on I will let them out in their enclosure which is plenty big for them. Once spring arrives and the food becomes plentiful, they can have their roam...

    Free range advice

I have 10 RIR's that I let free range on my property. I've had them since the beginning of September and they are approx 22 weeks old. Five have just begun laying within the last 10 days. I live on 4.25 acres and most of the other neighbors also have good sized plots. Recently, the girls have...
