NO egg withdrawal period with valbazen.... have you done it or know someone who has? Care to share your experience? No judgement here, just wondering. PS- please do not respond if you haven't personally done this or personally know someone who has. I already know all the reasons why you...
Little guy just hatched with yolk sac still attached. And wet, dark runny stuff all over. (The one that hatched last night didn't have any extra liquid and was full of energy.) I was afraid the little wild one would run all over the yolk sac and tear it, so I snatched it out of the 'bator and...
Thanks, guys! I knew that but had a momentary freak-out and was wavering. (First-time-mom problems. ) I appreciate your expertise and keeping me on track. As opposed to my family. "How can you leave him there?!" "That egg shell debris is sharp! Get it out!" "He's crowded!" "He needs to be held!"...
Brand new chick hatched in my Brinsea mini-advance. The other eggs have not even pipped, one isn't even moving. Should I take this one out while it is still safe to open 'bator? Or leave him in crawling over eggs and eggshell till they are all done?
That's interesting! If I ever decide to sell my eggs rather than just give them away to my friends and family, looks like I might need to do some research. Until then, we are all having fun playing backyard chicken keeper and don't really care. We just think it's cool to get our eggs from...
I'm not sure what I'm doing here. Trying to figure this out. I have a golden cuckoo marans, a white (?), a Welsummer, an olive egger, a silver laced Wyandotte, and 8 bantams in the incubator.
My DIL made me these custom carton labels for the eggs I get. She's a pretty talented girl! They are completely customizable. You can check out her stuff at neverforgottendesigns.com
BYC has been the greatest since I started keeping my girls in the backyard. :D I also wanted to share my custom egg carton labels my DIL made for me. Aren't they adorable?!

Oh WOW! Those head feathers look awfully familiar! So weird. And very interesting. I sent pics of both birds to mypetchicken.com asking for help in verifying the breed of the bird they sold me, but no response so far. I guess it doesn't really matter, in the end, because I'm very happy with my...
OK…. I think you are all right. (And THANK YOU!) I talked to the girl that I split the order of chicks with and she sends me this pic with an apology for the mix up. But……. I'm thinking she looks more like the cream legbar you guys mentioned earlier. Thoughts? Could this be my missing maran?
Oh, thank you so much for your expert input! In fact, there WAS an olive egger in the bunch I ordered that I split up with a friend. I bet you guys are right! Well, that makes perfect sense. THANKS!
I ordered her from mypetchicken.com. Paid ten bucks for her and she was supposed to be the only cuckoo maran left. Same thing happened with my last order from them. Here is a picture of my "Buff Rock" I ordered from last time. HAHA! But my pretty pittle "maran" is such a beautiful grey, just...
