    Hens complaining after rooster crows

I’ve noticed a new behaviour pattern in some of my hens and I tried to find out more about why they do it but it seems like an ungoogleable search! Basically whenever my rooster crows, three of the gals make this complaining sound. It’s the same one they make when they want to lay an egg in a...

    Chicken identification

Aaahhh that’s good to know! She was meant to be purebreds, she came with Minorcas and a crested polish. But there’s a possibility there’d be mixed ones in there I suppose! Unfortunately we just ordered her off eBay and it was so long ago that we no longer have any records of the username. :-(

    Chicken identification

Hi everyone! I bought a mystery bag of bantam eggs from the internet and in it came my favourite chicken: Football Chicken (her nickname is Footie) we named her that because even when she was a chick she was large and round and like a football. Since she’s grown older, she’s got quite an...

Paralysed chicken - to bathe or not to bathe

Sorry I haven’t updated! Elvira has been doing so much better that looking after her has become a billion times harder. Haha! Because of her regained strength, she’s become a right little so-and-so come feeding time. She still refuses to eat and drink and can’t walk around but she can find an...

Paralysed chicken - to bathe or not to bathe

Just as a reference, here’s an earlier post my husband (username Bat) made about Elvira when she didn’t want to stand up as a chick. Might be useful for those who may come across similar problems with their polish. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/foot-problem.1238020/#post-19867635

Paralysed chicken - to bathe or not to bathe

Good point TrudyG! Elvira is even better than she was this morning. Now she can properly hold up her head and is shuffling around in her little basket. Both her feet are working and she's just had an Epsom salt bath to clean off that poopy little butt! The treatment so far is as follows: From...

Paralysed chicken - to bathe or not to bathe

Hey Henrietta! Good advice! I might double it up and try and create a chicken sling bath combination. Also, thought I’d give y’all an update on Elvira. The Rickets diet seems to be doing something. I haven’t been restraining her when I force feed her because she paralysed but today she jumped...
