Mine started laying about a week ago. They were small eggs at first, but they are getting larger.
I also hatched another set on April 3rd. It was a 50% hatch rate. Got 14 new chicks. They are dong great in their new pen.
Next, I am going to try to hatch in a non-electric...
Hey BHep,
Thanks for all the information and support. I realize now that ChooksChick is the one that put the incubation sheet sheet under her signature.
Thank you both. I found the sheet. It is terrific!
Hey BHep, Thanks for the information, but what do you mean when you say read the sheet in your signature. I went to your BYC page and clicked on all links, but I could not find anything about incubation. I am still new to this humongous forum and am having trouble finding my way around.
Thanks BHep and Featherz
I need the encouragement for next time, but I am having a blast with my chickens and my new chicks that survived my ignorance.
Thanks for the info and advice Featherz
My chicks were soaking wet when they hatched. The eggs that did not hatch were filled with liquid. Sounds like I definitely had the humidity too high. I will take your advice and get the candler you mentioned. thanks again.
Did I drown my chicks. My wet bulb thermometer was registering the same temp as my thermometer, so i figured it was not working. So, I just made sure that the bottom of the bator had plenty of water in it from day one. I drowned most of my chicks, didn't I?
None of my eggs hatched on New Years.
( I had 40 eggs and I didn't candle this time because the last time (which was my first time) half the eggs I pulled contained embryos .)
So, this time, I decided to help out (big mistake) and lightly crack the eggs. I cracked them all and two popped and...
Thanks, NotAFarm. I will add that to my chores when I get home from work on Thursday. I would have just died if one of the chicks got caught in the turner.
mrheinz77, thanks for the update on the progress of our chicks.
Is it too late to wait until Saturday, Dec 20th, to remove my eggs from the egg turner and place them on the floor of the bater?
Sounds like Murphy's Law is alive and well. I didn't check my eggs yesterday. It was Christmas, after all. I will not know if Murphy got me, until I get home from work. If all is well, I am counting down with the rest of ya'll
The only concern I have with not candling my eggs is that the bad ones may burst. How likely is that? When I candle my eggs, I end up making errors and tossing out good eggs.
