    Chronic shell-less egg layer

UPDATE: There were 4 eggs in the nest box this morning one from each of my ladies! And I haven't seen any yolk or whites on the poop board! I have been adding a couple drops of oregano essential oil in their water every 2 days and it seems to be working!

    Chronic shell-less egg layer

I'm in Raleigh, NC. I have 4 hens and Sriracha is the only girl having problems. They did molt this fall, but not fully.

    Chronic shell-less egg layer

Yes, I do use a layer feed and provide oyster shells. Although I may start mixing in with the feed. Sriracha is a 2 years old barred rock. Could it be age?

Hmm? She was laying shell-less eggs before the saddle. That's why I used it (her sister is fine). I don't have any roosters, but my dominant hen is a meany. I may have to give her away.

    Chronic shell-less egg layer

I have been playing detective for a few days looking for what I thought was a egg eater, but it turns out my favorite hen has been laying shell-less eggs. Today she was free ranging and just plops out an egg yolk with whites streaming out behind. It totally freaked me out. All the girls in my...

Will my birdie be dead in the morning!? ( ;_;)

You were right! I was afraid that I would find 4 chickens instead of 5 this morning, but Sriracha was reigning over her subjects the same as always! We can now add Snake eater to the list of her titles!

Will my birdie be dead in the morning!? ( ;_;)

My favorite chicken Sriracha ate a snake today, head and all. At first I was okay with it but now I'm afraid that she will be dead in the morning from the venom. Has any one's chickens eaten a snake and lived? We live near a pond so I suspect that the snake was a water moccasin. We've killed...

    injured chick

Yes, Piper can stand and walk, but she's favoring it. Me being the guilty owner that I am, I come running as soon as she chirps for me, so she's living like a queen wrapped in a towel. I put ointment on the raw spots, that seemed to perk her up. She drank more of the sugar water also. The raw...

    injured chick

My 3 week old chick got her foot tangled in some rope. She rubbed a couple of spots raw struggling to get free. thankfully, her foot isn't broken, but what should I do about the raw spots? I tried to give her some sugar water, but she only took a few swallows and then went to sleep.

The newest urban farmer on the block!

Hi! I'm Toya and I currently own two Plymouth Barred Rock hens named Pastry and Dumpling. The General lost his life protecting his ladies from a hawk. I became interested in raising chickens while on a field trip with my daughter. The owners of the park had two Jersey Giants to control the bugs...
