I will photograph her this morning. She is a little better today having started to pick up a bit last night. She did a couple of poos that were streaked with quite a bright green and white, but smelt strange, (not a cocci smell though) but then, she hadn’t pooped all day. After that she was a...
Yesterday when I let the girls out there was one of my young girls that limped noticeably and didn’t look really well. She ran off, but was on her own and quite fluffed up. I caught her and she felt a bit light but her crop was not empty and her keel bone reasonably covered. I put her in...
I am an organic farmer and heritage chickens for gorgeous brown eggs are a part of my mix for farm income. So my girls need a man...lol. I have two other roosters that I didn't raise, that are perfect. I suspect I am not penning them right and not handling them enough. I have also raised two...
Thank you for the reply. No we don't have that here, that ai know of anyway. I bathed her wounds in CS last night and gave her pain meds, she is doing much better today, so here's hoping!
Thank you. I would be sad to kill him because he is good with us, but he is distantly related to the two girls, so all in all I think it may be best and I will breed more in the spring to raise the number of hens, then I will look for an unrelated roo.
I think I will dispatch him tomorrow. I don't have time for all this right now. I will set up a cage for future cockerels and start again later or buy good roosters as I need them.
Thanks for the advice.
PS: My grandparents were from County Durham :)
I love it. I am scared though since I had a horrendous reaction to multiple stings as a child (bees were swarming and flew into my head, I shook my head and got bees stuck in my hair). But my husband will help and I will get desensitisation sessions arranged and keep an epi-pen handy!
It is fantstic stuff. We use nothing else on ourselves when we have a skin infection or injury. And really no offense taken. I am really grateful you shared your experience with me, I will not make that mistake again.
When you are growing out cockerals how do you house them? I found they get...
Thank you. While I have been keeping chickens for years, but just moved to a farm and am new to cockerals. I could kick myself for making such a rookie mistake!
I have only Colloidal Silver here, but it is not an irritant, I have even used it on my own eye, I do have raw honey, so can use that...
Thank you. I think they should have plenty of room, but they were new quarters to them all. She was the smaller of the two girls. I will change his diet as I have several feed options, I also have a red heat lamp that I can try.
Do you think he will settle down as he gets older?
Great advice, thank you. I only have CS for now. I will get Blue Kote as others suggested, next time I am in town. I am giving her pain meds tonight so she has a pain-free night bless her.
