Welcome to my page. Here you can learn a little bit about myself, and my venture into poultry. Currently we have a "backyard" flock. Nothing special, just a mix of breeds that we enjoy and use for eggs. We have Silkies in various colors: White, Splash, Blue and Black. We have Phoenix...

    Peachick severly hurt

I'll show hubby the rat bait holders. That would solve a lot of our issues! Thank you. "jasmine" is doing very well. She has learne that peeping gets her attention, and also rushes the carrier to try and come out. She enjoys her time outside the carrier and exploring the house. She is also...

    Peachick severly hurt

We have spotted a few rats here and there, but I honestly thought nothing of it as it's a barn, and theres going to be rats when you have grain.... We've been shooting them when we see them, but are still seeing them here and there.... I'm betting that is the gulity culprit. We didn't want to...

    Peachick severly hurt

I also do not think it was the chickens. If nothing more I'd have found bones or some trace of a carcass. The chickens that are in the barn are also 3 silkies, and the 4 month old chicks were as big as if not larger then them, as well as a rooster and his three sex link hens. I can see the...

    Peachick severly hurt

Just a small update: so far she seems ok! She is very alert, has been eating very well and is drinking up a storm. She is going to the bathroom and no longer appears shocky. I let her out of the carrier for a little bit before I cleaned her wing. She seemed to be having fun walking around and...

    Peachick severly hurt

Our peachicks are about 4 months old now, and have been slowly being introduced to free range. I brought them into the barn last night, locked everyone up. They are in with a few chickens (6), but have been for several days with no issues. The peachicks normally fly up into the rafters for the...

    Whoo hoo 2 more chicks!

We had a "community" nest going on, and I let a broody peahen take care of the eggs. Figured if they hatch they hatch, if not thats ok too. We only had a total of 8 eggs. After throughly checking the eggs 2 ended up being duck eggs, so that left me with 6 pea eggs. I know my broody bs midnight...

just set 4 pea eggs and 4 more tomarrow any one with me?

Our little guy is doing GREAT! I am very happy. Hoping both of my guys continue to do well .. I guess not horrible for my first attempt at getting peafowl eggs to hatch. One of my Midnight BS hens has actually set as well. She gathered the other 4 hens eggs, and is sitting... I'll let her be...

just set 4 pea eggs and 4 more tomarrow any one with me?

Update! The egg under our broody hen hatched! However, she kicked the chick out of the nest and continued to sit on his hatched egg. Found the chick most likely in the nick of time--he was very cold, limp and white in color.... Ran him to the brooder and held him for a good hour and a half under...

just set 4 pea eggs and 4 more tomarrow any one with me?

I will take a look I did find someone with bronze..but they are a breeding pair. I may pick them up anyway Worst comes to worst we have a chicken that's been missing for 2 weeks now...finally found her with a nest of eggs--so we may steal a chick or two for him if they hatch.

Still a couple days left on the last eggs set...but our poor little guy is all alone, on the hunt to find a few bronze chicks to add.... Just striking out finding any in PA!

just set 4 pea eggs and 4 more tomarrow any one with me?

Still nothing on the other eggs. Hopefully we get another chick to hatch so this one isn't all alone! He's doing great though...24 hours out of shell and is active, and looks to be nice and strong

We had one egg hatch as of this afternoon. Hubby called to tell me...all I know is it's "Yellow and hoping everywhere in the incubator". Other eggs are chirping..so heres hoping to having more hatch! Updates soon! I have a staggered hatch up until next week, so it will be long wait to see how...

    Are peahens quieter than boys?

Honestly I don't even notice the girls. The boys are extremely loud. Especially during the night... or during the day when they are calling back and forth to the peacocks a mile up the road. Heck Zeus is so loud and yells so much by the end of the day his voice is hoarse.
