What type of incubators do you have? What type of temperature control do they have?
If they are wafer switches, try replacing the wafer after you check to make sure the switch actually works. If they are electronic controls, check to make sure the thermocouple (temperature sensor) is...
900W is pretty big...The GQF and Dickeys use a 225W element for the cabinet. If you are going to use it as your heat source, I'd say be sure to have a fan (or fans) with decent CFM to make sure you don't end up with hot spots in your cabinet. What are you using for temperature control?
Without a thermostat or similar temperature control, variations in the ambient temperature are going to lead to significant fluctuations in your "incubator". Wafer switches or digital controls are available for under $20 - otherwise, use a hen.
Hello and welcome! I'm located in Hope, which is probably farther away than you want to go, but feel free to get in touch to discuss. I notice that there have been several sellers of quail on craigslist around the Surrey and Port Coquitlam areas.
The grower pellets are several bucks more per bag than the grower crumble, and otherwise they are the identical product, content, etc so I'm trying to save a buck by going with the crumble. Also just started supplementing with sprouted grains for some variety in the run as they have already...
Yep, switched them to a 22% Gamebird Grower crumble. Seperated some of the runts into another pen so they have less competition for food if that was maybe the problem.
Nice setup! I was just about to start building two more homebuild incubators, but found a smoking deal on some old sportsman incubators I'll just retrofit with digital controllers.
I have 100 Mongolian/Jumbo ringnecks from McFarlane, now 10 weeks old. I used to raise Korean subspecies. I`m finding that this bunch is rather unevenly sized with large and small males, but the females have the greatest differences. I`ve had them on 27% medicated Game Bird Starter. Any...
Any update? The keet that had the sore leg is now occasionally walking about in circles, with his head held low and horizontal to the ground. Otherwise he seems fine, and doesn't always do this.
Last night I had one showing the same symptoms, mine are about six weeks and also on straw. This morning, still not moving about much, with the left leg pulled up and not putting weight on it. Got home tonight and it's moving around normally again, maybe slightly favouring the left leg...
