Review by '' on item 'Welsummer'

My Welsummer lays huge eggs, however, she takes a lot breaks in between. Every two, three eggs she lays, she will rest for day or two.

    Shrinking Crown?

After two months of malting, my hen finally laid one egg, I was very happy that she started laying again. Then she stopped laying again for about two weeks now. I'm very concerned because her crown looks weired to me. It seems shrinking and pale, not like the other hen has red and fuller crown...

    the biggest egg ever

My year old Welsummer has been laying big eggs ever since she started it; however, a couple of weeks ago, she laid two huge eggs that we've never seen before. They are about 3in tall and 2in wide. I thought they were double yolks, but no. My other BR hen is laying normal size eggs, even she eats...

    no shell egg

My 8 month old BR has laid 60 eggs since January. However, she laid a no shell egg on Thursday, and has not laying eggs for two days. She did use the nesting box though, but just no egg come out. I checked for stuck egg under her abdomen, but it seems normal. She is eating well, and getting a...

    laying egg while rosting

This morning we found a broken egg under the roosting bar which is two feet above the ground. Apparently, one of my pullet was too sleepy to go into the nesting box. I think she laid it very early in the morning while it was still dark or even at night. She was supposed to lay yesterday noon...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Quote: That's a beautiful egg in both size and color. Too bad my Ameraucana pullet was taken away by a raccoon a week ago; otherwise, she would lay pretty eggs too. I really miss her, she was our very first chicken.

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

This is my 24 weeks old Barred-Rock pullet first egg. She started on the new year's day, has had 7 eggs so far (again, it has been very cold). She is a good egg layer, and very quite compare to the Welsummer pullet we have.

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Here is my 24 weeks old Welsummer's first egg! She laid on Dec 30, and had total of 6 eggs in about 2 weeks so far (hey, it's winter). The annoying thing is that now, when the BR pullet is doing her business, the Wel starts croaking loudly which is very disturbing.

what kind of worm is this?

I've got a lot of those worms in my compost box. They are white and translucent, with brownish red head and brown legs and often curls up like a button. Does any one knows what kind of worm it is? I assume they are not good for the garden, so I feed them to the chickens, and the chickens love it.

OK for chicken sleep in the nesting box?

My two pullets sleep in one nesting box every night ever since they were little, one lays her egg in the box, one lays outside of the box. Is OK to let them do that? I do clean the box very often. Also, one of them laid an egg at 8:30 this morning, why so early? is possible she will lay another...

    Lost hen

Yesterday, I post my first question regarding our Ameraucana hen who was timid and small. However, last night she was taken by a raccoon. We have three hens 6-7 month old, they always sleep in the little nesting box, and the Ameraucana usually sit at the bottom while the other two on top of...
