Nope, can't find one of her...only the two Barred Rocks. I'll try to get one tonight, if I get out of work before it's too dark! If not, I will get one tomorrow!
The little hen in question barely has a comb at all! It's not started to "puff up" or fill out at all, like our other Wyandotte crosses have in the past (to start to resemble a rose or pea comb)...BUT she doesn't have a little saw-toothed single comb, either! It's like her comb just doesn't...
Hello! Wondering if anyone can help identify this little hen's mother!
We know for sure her father is a Giant Blue Cochin (also pictured), but we're having a REALLY hard time narrowing her mother down. She's colored differently than ANY of the other chicks we've gotten from this roo (but he was...
Oh, wow, I didn't know that! It's a forced air incubator (Little Giant 9300 with the heater/fan combo installed), so I should be able to section off one corner for the 3 chuckar eggs at lockdown time without compromising the environment too much, especially since I have so few eggs in total...
Update:
I've asked a couple of Facebook groups my question (above) and Vent Gleet was suggested as a possibility. I'm not familiar w/this - based on my information provided above, can anyone confirm? Most of the pictures I've found on the internet re. this particular issue look MUCH more...
Thanks, I had suspicions that waiting 4 weeks would be too long. They're going back to the co-worker to gave them to me after they hatch, so I'm not too worried about the brooder setup - IF we keep any ourselves it would only be a couple of the quail, and ALL of the eggs would have to hatch for...
I realize this thread is pretty old, but I just came across it, and thought I'd ask some preliminary questions!
I just received 3 chukar eggs, and 12 bobwhite quail eggs from a coworker (collected from the hens on 06/05/18). I set my incubator up the evening of 06/06/18 and was planning on...
TLDR - Thought hen was egg bound, but she's not. She hasn't laid in several weeks, and her butt is stinky but her poops look normal - What gives?

SO, sorry if this has been asked/answered elsewhere - I tried searching some keywords and reading through some other posts but wasn't able to find...
Look at that fat rump and the striped tail in the last picture - That's a raccoon for SURE. Trash Pandas are pretty cute most of the time, until they start killing chickens! Watch your flock and set traps if you're able to - we lost several full grown birds to a family raccoons last fall...NOT...
I should add, we do know that the one little black chick with the white belly came from a blue egg - so one of the five Easter Eggers or Ameraucanas, but we don't know which of those five it might have been from. Also, that same chick has been feathering out much more quickly than the others.
No, he's not mean, he just has a very healthy libido! LOL He's great with people, and he's not mean to the hens, but when he's cooped up with the same small group of hens their combs can get a little rough from all the action.
I've looked quite a bit, and wasn't able to find anything that really matches our circumstances (a lot of other posts are inquiring about cochin hens with other roos)... ANY help/insight/pictures that you guys can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!
We have a Giant Blue Cochin rooster, he's...
Here was our Turken / Naked Neck when she was very young (above) and also at around 2-3 months old (below/middle) and at 6-8 months old (very bottom).
She definitely got more "naked" as she grew up!
I've been reading various threads on this site for a little over a year, and I thought I had signed up a while ago, but apparently not!
We live in the PNW, and have a growing flock! Here's what we've got currently:
1 Giant Blue Cochin - Rooster
19 mature/laying hens, including 1 Silver-, 1...
