Their feathers have came in now. They are trying even harder to fly and have at least doubled in size. They remain hilarious. Sometimes they replace the television!
I failed to do this when joining the forum. So hello everyone. I'm in KY and just started with chickens over the last year. I recently hatched my first eggs. I just have some barnyard mix birds that are supposedly some mix of barred rocks, orpingtons and who knows what else.
Anyway, hello and...
I have been searching threads for a bit this morning and failed to answer a concern. A couple of my chics now have dingleberrys. They are well formed chicken poop not blocking the vent but clinging to their fuzzy bottom just below the vent. Is this the dreaded pasty butt or beginnings of pasty...
I have them in this big 75 gallon oceanic aquarium. I added another heat lamp from Tractor Supply to the other side today. Now the chcics will run over and plop right down under one light, then hit up the feed/water station in the middle and plop their fuzzy butts down under the other...
I feel pretty silly really, a grown man all excited over some baby chickens but they are fun to watch. They are set up in the living room. It's so funny. Something disturbs them and a flurry of activity results for a few mintues. Then they all go lay down and sleep a few minutes. Minutes later...
That really is all I want. My original group has some of those barred rocks in it before my chicken guarding of a dog slaughtered them. I don't know why but I just liked the look of those birds.
I guess I consider myself fortunate to have some birds that fare so well. That's exactly what I...
Thanks. It was gratifying, mostly because we made so many mistakes and lost so many of our original flock. My favorites were lost as a matter of fact. I just loved those barred rock birds. I don't know why, something about how they look. I may find a couple of those this spring to add to the...
Hello chicken mom. I won't hold your buckeye status against you!
These little chics are a lot of fun. I've hatched a few species of lizards and I can't even count the clutches of various colubrid snakes. Last year some of my boa constrictors (I have nearly 60) gave birth to my first litter of...
Nearly a year ago I decided to convert an old tin building on the property into a chicken coop and to take a retired and disassembled Argentine blue tegu (large carnivorous South American Lizard) cage and convert it into a chicken run. You can see this marvel of engineering and craftsmanship...
According to my eccentric and elderly neighbor whom provided my chics his stock are a mix of Orpington and Rocks.
The hen looks to me like what I have seen of Orpingtons.
The male is what I think to be a mix of a banded rock and who knows what else.
Here they are together...
