So far today has just been a normal day and since I work in Law Enforcement a "normal day" is a good thing ! Yesterday, me my 19 yr old son & 3 yr old granddaughter fed the chickens & played in the mealworm farm together (we even got our first beetles!)
You must have some speedy meal worms for your chickens to be chasing them ~~~ I want some of those ! Actually watching them chasing crickets is one of my favorite things to do here lately. Really saves money too- more entertaining than cable !
He should have known better...I guess I forgot to mention he is 19 ! Anyway, he I & my 3yr old Grandaughter have almost as much fun with the mealworms as we do the chickens !
Woo Hoo !
Even though I had to start all over again (son baked the worms in the sun), we got our first beetls last night. 2 beetles & one that was shedding it's pupa skin as we watched !
Hey Kizanne ~
Do you mind if I share your lesson plan with a teacher hear in NC ? I was hoping to get her to do a meal worm farm with the students and you've already got it all laid out for math. I am sure the science will take care of itself ; )
I had mentioned that temp played a roll in the timing of the stages....so my son put my lil farm in the sun.... I think he killed them all. Time to start all over again !
I will try to keep that in mind. Wouldn't want anyone losing their head. Still very new to all this... chickens, mealies. Mostly been winging it except for all the wise words from BYCers !
Now you all have me worrying about the switch.... No need to worry, no need to worry.... I will not worry. Phew better.
I have one more bag of starter, then planning on switching to layer. Hope the girls do fine.
