I have raised chickens for over thirty years. We are a non-gmo, organic farm and I switch mine to layer at 25 weeks. They will start laying between 5-6 months anyway. There really is not any danger to the birds if you switch just before you stop laying. Just enjoy your chickens and don't sweat...

I have never heard that one bird drinking more water than another is any indication of a problem. I have raised chickens for over 30 years and this is news to me. I would not worry about the water drinking. I am not sure how long you have had the chickens, or how old they are...
Thank you for your welcomes. I have had chickens for over 30 years. I have Speckled Sussex, Black Australorps, and Rhode Island Reds. I have 4 "mutts" My grandmother didn't care about breed preservation so she had all kinds and mixtures. I keep my breeds true. Thanks again for your kindness.
