    Currently my girls have 5.5 sq ft per bird in the coop and 150 sq ft per bird in the chicken yard. I have 13 hens.

    It amazes me the total disconnect with reality the manufacturers of these Prefab Coops have. I laugh every time I see a 3' × 4' Coop...

    PS - we currently have 23 birds in our coop which means we are slightly over populated, but we anticipate a little attrition over time.

    Or build them one if you're handy. Those prefabs can be a bit, well... flimsy.

    If theres room yes. I wouldn't let my girls roost in the open. Alot of predetors at night. Mine go in naturally at dusk and I lock...

    Yes, usually 3 sleep inside. And 3 sleep on top of it at night if it’s warm and not raining. Should I force them to sleep inside?

    That's what I'm seeing, too. @Halfpasthen . I think that sleeping area, minus the nesting boxes and front enclosed run, is about 1.5 x...
