This is exactly what has been happening with mine. The only difference is that my girls have been laying for about a year. Like I mentioned, they all get the same food + oyster shell. Not a clue what's up.

Very important question for all of you... How do you get your chickens to stand for this?!? Do you knock them out before cutting into their foot? I'm dubious whether I can even hold my hen still for 10 minutes to soak her foot. I need some advice and motivation please!!!

I wonder if my chickens think to themselves "Why is she carrying that egg around like that?" And how neglected will they feel when I leave them with a babysitter for the first time to have the baby? Already feeling guilty about the reduced amount of time and attention they will receive.

As someone who has been hospitalized due to salmonella, I do try to avoid it. But I get where your coming from and I have to catch myself sometimes. I definitely hug and cuddle them each at least once a day. How can you not give comfort to something that sees you as it's mother? :)
