    Lone chicken

We have a large fenced chicken yard with an enclosed coop and run area within. She is inside now with a plate of left over pea soup with meal worms on top. A little spoiled... :)

    Lone chicken

I have lost 2 of my three hens in two months. Will my only hen be ok for the winter alone? I can get chicks in the spring. I’m in Maryland and it’s cold. Do I need to find her new roommates right away? I’ve had chickens for 12 years and have never had this happen. Must have been a hawk. 😢

    Dead Hen in run

This is so sad. I have a huge fenced in area around their coop and attached run. We are home all day and have had chickens for almost 15 years and this is a first. I'm now down to 2 hens. :(

    Dead Hen in run

hello! Last night I found one of our hens dead in their run. It was open to the outside. She had no visible injuries except her neck was completely chewed on, all the way around. Her coop mates are completely freaked out. Who would do this and not eat her or take her away??? We are in Maryland...

Looks like my glw has this too. Any fx besides the meds? Should she be quarantined? :(

    Beat up hen

Found her yesterday morning in the rain and had been out all night. She is missing hand size area of feather on lower back. No scratches or wounds anywhere. One eye swollen shut but now more open. Dried her off and seperates her in garage with heat lamp. Every so often she looks up and seems to...

    MARYLAND THREAD!

We had the same problem, but had 2 roosters. Rights of Man farm in Frederick County took ours. I spoke to them at a farmers market. They are happily running around their farm with lots of ladies to play with. :)

    Rooster or hen

We got six chicks in march. 3ee, 1glw, 2bo. 2 of the ee are almost twice the size of the other 4. One started crowing so we know he is a roo. The other hasn't started to crow. The 2 of them were caught beating up my only laying hen, a red sexlink that is 1 year old. We seperated the 2 in another...

Thanks. Anything I should worry about with the hens? :)

Never had a rooster, will he affect eggs?

We have had chickens for four years. Never had a rooster, but our new chicks bought in march has a rooster. He is an ee, there are 3 ee, 2 buffs, 1 black Wyandotte and 1 red sexlink. We wise them for eggs. Here is the stupid question, if the rooster gets to the hens, can we still eat the eggs...

    EE not laying

Thanks. We are so saddened by their passing. Today we found that something had tried to get into the coop. We have plastic sheeting on one side of their coop/run to keep it dry. The plastic is torn and a 6" chunk ripped out. In broad daylight. Our office is 50' from the coop. Not sure what is so...

    EE not laying

Matilda is 2 years old. She was one of 3 hens we have had for 2 years. In early May Gertrude was taken by a fox and killed. Memorial Day weekend Emily just stopped eating on a Saturday and died Sunday night. She looked totally healthy, was eating and running around the yard with no issues. There...
