What kind of chickens are my new girls?

Thanks! I looked it up, and I think that's a good guess! They are mostly black with some red showing - and the feathers have a lovely green sheen to them in the sunlight.

I was given three new girls by a friend who has no idea what kind they are. Can anyone help me out?[/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

URGENT: Coop Fire - Smoke Inhalation - What should I do for her??

I have her inside, wrapped in a towel. She's sleeping. I tried the inhaler to the side of her beak on inhale, and it may have worked...a little bit. She isn't gasping as badly, but I can't tell if her breath is just getting more shallow. : ( I've given her several droppers full of water...

URGENT: Coop Fire - Smoke Inhalation - What should I do for her??

We had a huge coop fire last night. Coop burned to the ground, but all the hens got out. Today, one is really struggling with breath, is wheezy and very still. Eyes mostly closed. Occasionally, she looks better for a few seconds, but then goes back into labored breathing and stillness. All...

Adding three new hens - and they are terrified. :(

Poor girls... One hen will not leave the new ones alone, and the poor things just stay "cooped up" in the small hen house all day. I took the two most dominant hens out and put them in a different pen today. Is that what you all would recommend? (I have 3 Americaunas. Introducing 2 more, plus...

Rooster or Hen? Silver Laced Wyandottes at 5 months old.

I'm still wondering about the one at the bottom of the photo (standing next to the waterer). She isn't crowing...but isn't laying. Re-homed our other guy when he started crowing last week, confirming our suspicions. Still holding out on Marilyn. : ) Can Wyandottes have straight tail...

Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

I'm starting to get discouraged! My Silver Laced Wyandotte is 5 1/2 months now and no eggs yet. Still within normal range? I got three of them at the same time (at 12 weeks) and two turned out to be roos. : ( I now have 6 chickens and only one egg per day. Boo.

Telling the sex of a Chicken

haha...sorry. The others are my adult female Black Sex Links. They are all hens, all laying well at age 2. The SLW is the one in question. He/she is 5 months. Couldn't get the girls to move from the pic. : )

Telling the sex of a Chicken

[/IMG][/IMG] Just wanting to make sure...we can't have roosters where we live and will have to get rid of these guys if they turn out to be...guys. So sad! Love them.

What do you all think about these "girls"? I think they may be roos, too.

    Egglaying went down why ??

Ours has, too. This is our first year with chickens and I was wondering the same thing. We have 7 that are laying, and getting 2-3 eggs/day now as opposed to 5 a day before. Do they molt this early? We have lots of feathers in the pen...

Oooohhh, no. No chance of hens having those more pronounced feathers, huh. I was afraid of that. We live in a neighborhood and can't have roosters crowing. Doggone it.
