I posted about some mystery chicks last week and I have some better pictures now that they are older! I know I hatched a Silver Laced Wyandotte because my family has raised those chicks before but I’m unfamiliar with the rest and super curious if anybody recognizes any breeds.
Hei Hei looks...
I did some more reading and it looked like the reason it couldn’t stand was because it had curled toes. I made a splint and used a washcloth to try to help gently dry him off. I opted to put him under the heat lamp right away rather than leave him in the bator and this morning he is doing much...
I’ve been having issues with one hatching chick. I finally finished assisting it’s hatch tonight because it was half out, sprawled out when I got home. The only way to get it out of the membrane was to soak it in a warm bath and slowly peel the membrane off. It is now back in the bator, 100 F...
I used a Q-tip to moisten the membrane when I pulled the membrane back a bit. But it’s still really dry. I don’t understand how because my humidity has been at least 60% the entire time.
The veins look dry and the yolk is absorbed. I peeled some shell and membrane back, then left the house for a about 8 hours and still no progress. Still alive though!
Absolutely hilarious :lau
They were left over from my university’s biology department and they were supposed to be destroyed but the chair of the biology department allowed to let me sneak them out:cool:
I have 14 other babies, but it’s hard to gauge what day was 21 because they were all rescue eggs at slightly different points. But it’s up to 18 hours and he hasn’t made the hole any bigger since I went to bed
I’m not sure if this is the right place to put this but I need help!
I have a chick that pipped on the wrong end of the egg but I was not super worried because within 6 or so hours it started the unzipping process. Except it started 12 hours ago and it isn’t making any progress now.
Is it...
Going to school was the hardest thing I have done! I am up to 10 chicks and I have 4 more pips and 1 that is struggling to hatch but I’m going to give him a few hours before I worry lol
I left for class with 3 hatched and 8 pipped and 1 unzipping. My roommate just sent me this picture with 6 hatched!
They’re all mystery chicks at varying rates of development so I’m excited that I have some hatching.
Any guesses on what breed? I know the picture isn’t great but I hope to...
Update: How long should I wait after a pip before I worry about assisting in a hatch? I read 24 hours but I’ve also seen 48 hours. Lots of my eggs had pips when I got home from work but only one more has hatched so far. And I’m getting anxious as a first time hatcher!
