They will eat almost anything! I like peanut butter because you can smear it on the trigger plate.....I seem to have more luck with them tripping the mechanism then. A word of caution....skunks like much of the same bait, including dog food. A good rule for your black ops is positive target...

I've got a box fan hanging in the window running on high during the day and low at night. Luckily I've got the coop located where it is in the shade for most of the day.
If you're worried about the heat but don't want to fool with plywood, you can always use the blue board insulation. Its easy to cut and fit as well as being much lighter. It will also reduce much of the heat radiating from the tin.
