This is a picture of my coop and my new chicks are working on integrating with my older laying pullets. There is not a door to the coop part, just an opening, so when I place the new chicks in the run, they are scared and will not stay back there. One night I think they huddled in a corner of...
Must be. I went back to Tractor Supply to find out if they had any Red Stars because my Buff Orps are not that at all. The lady told me it was an Isa Red, as well.
Do any gardeners here compost and let your chickens do some of the work? I'm interested in this and seeing how it works, isn't smelly, etc. I guess all the bugs get eaten by the chicks so they're not flying all over the yard? If so, do you have a bin or area that is closed off and put the...
Well I guess what kind of bantams are at the bottom of page 6? Look like mine and am just curious. Also, how d
Or when do you know if one is a rooster?
What kind are the little chicks in this pic? They look just like the bantams I got from Tractor Supply but have no idea what I bought.
Editing this because I was actually trying to reference a reply to the chicks at the bottom of page 6...
Went to TS and got 3 buff orps and the minimum was 6 birds so I got 3 bantams as well! I have no idea what kind those are but so far, everyone is warm and dry and doing well.
New to all this but have a small tractor. Either want 3 orpingtons or several bantams. Are they still as quiet and how big do the eggs get? Sized for baking still? Not really trying to hatch eggs so wouldn't like the broodiness I've read about, but could deal with it, I'm sure.
ok got the pics uploaded. Trying to decide if the nest box should be inside that house or attach it more to the back of the house so there is more roosting room.
Here is the start to my tractor my dad is building. Hoping that a roost pole in the house will be sufficient and nailing the nest box above it. How high can they jump and will that be private enough?
I was thinking of Orpingtons due to neighbors living next door and nieces/nephews visiting since I've read they're calm, quieter, good egg layers. Also thought of Australorps. Would those be ok if I just got a few?
And thanks for all the welcomes!
I'm new to tractors and didn't know where to put a nesting box either. Especially in the A frame types. One side will all be open for the run and the other will have the ladder to go up to the nesting box and house. But how do you seperate the two areas so they don't sleep in the boxes? And...
Hi, I'm new here and new to chickens. My dad is currently building a me an A frame chicken tractor since I live in town and have a small backyard. I'm thinking I'll keep about 3 hens, going to pick up the baby chicks this weekend from the store I think. I'm a little scared about keeping them...
