Our city just past an ordinance allowing four laying hens. I was so happy until I found out that they were considered a part of the over all 4 pet limit. I cant get any because I have two cats and two dogs.

WE have to write a report on a local subculture. I thought it would be fun to do urban chickens. I would like to interview, online of course, some of you who own chickens in town. Let me know a time when we can set up a chat. It will be short.

Well I haven't even heard back from the seller yet but the dementions are 60''x48'', just about perfect for four hens! and it's only $20!

I would have to be able to take off the roof. I was wondering if that would be difficult with somthing that is shingled?

My mother, who seriously does not want me to get chickens, told me that a friend of hers has chickens and they have turned her yard into dirt scratching for bugs. If I let my chickens roam free in my fenced in yard will I have to say goodbye to grass? Also as for the smell, is it easier to...

So I take it keeping the water inside the coop doesn't keep it warm enough?

I have to be able to put food and water inside the coop because of winter. Speaking of which, how do you keep water from from freezing?

First of all, I agree that Jesus is Lord! Second I don't know how I will feel when it comes to that point either. I always fall in love with my animals but we already have a zoo! With the limit of four hens I don't feel like I have a choice. I am doing this to help animals in the first place...

Since we can only have four chickens (I'm hoping since they haven't even passed that ordinance yet) I will need to be able to keep only egg laying chickens around. I was figuring on having two chickens the first year and then getting tow the next year so they don't all quit laying at the same...

Do any of you eat your egg birds once they quit laying?

One last question. Why are most of the coops I see off the ground? Do they stay warmer that way?
