How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Welcome to the group VinceRusso. Same problem here, it's been in single digit temperatures and way too much snow. Looking for a break in weather soon.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Thanks for the suggestion about spreading some straw outside, over the snow. Maybe they will be more interested in going out side. My flock 7 hens laid 5 eggs today (Wednesday 4, Feb.)

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yeah, they really don't like snow. On the really cold days, I didn't find one brave enough to go outdoors. They hate walking in snow. Today it got up to 37 degrees and I pushed them all out the door & closed it, so I could clean up the coop and give them new straw & wood chips. Added new scratch...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My Golden Comets hatched in July, (1 roo and 7 hens) some started laying 22 December, 2014. It has been a cold winter for them, but my hens lay about 4 to 6 eggs daily. I use one infrared 75 watt heater on days below 15, and a 60 watt light on a timer to add couple hours of light each morning...

I have 7 hens that just started laying in late December. I leave the poop door open during the daytime and close it at dark. I recently installed a 75watt ceramic infrared heater in a ceiling fixture. It keeps the coop about 10-15 degrees warmer than exterior. last night the temp. outside was 16...

    Bedding

I started out using straw in the coop this summer, seems like the wood shavings absorbed moisture better, so switched to it this fall. Haven't noticed my girls or roos eating it, Guess I need to watch and decide whether to stay with pine chips or switch back to straw for winter. Have been using...

Sponsored Post Busting Wintertime Flock Boredom

I have four golden comet hens and 4 roos, (the roos, I didn't plan on) so culling 3 of them soon. This is my first winter for my small flock, that are now 13 weeks old. Thinking of adding some metal roofing material over part of the 12 x 30 foot yard area near to door, so they can go out during...
