Look at my birds
12 of the sixteen youngsters went to live with my sister's flock. These four are staying with us- until I can figure out which one is crowing! Yep, one of these is a cockerel. I suspect the black one with a white face and pink comb.
We still have 16 out of the 18 chicks, they get many play pen sessions during the day. I'm building a bigger brooder for them though as they are definitely outgrowing the bin they are in.
A clutch of button quail are due to hatch today or tomorrow. Set 11 eggs and only one quit developing. I already see some early signs of pipping (tiny x shaped cracks) in one or two places on seven of the ten eggs. Wish them luck and a prayer!
The parents were a trio, red breasted male over a smokey female and a red breasted female. I am very curious what colors they will be. I'm sure half of them will be red breast.
Goldilocks passed away this summer. She fell asleep in the shade and as the day went on, the shade she was in changed positions. By the time I found her she had been laying in the sun too long.
