  • On the other hand my female, who was not the runt but has always been sweet and a bit more withdrawn than her cohort and smaller has now caught up in size and has been more aggressive. Even has been picking out the down from male. His new feathers have either fallen out or been plucked. I believe the latter. Any ideas?

Hi there, I think you could let them work it out on their own unless they are drawing blood. Keep a close watch, but let them figure out the pecking order by themselves. :)
recently, after getting their first "big kid" feathers, my normally slightly aggressive, excitable and energetic male, had a bout of dark diarrea, which thought was due to muddy corner where their pen was. Has now become withdrawn between activities of eating drinking and preening all of which otherwise seem normal.
Hello, DuckLady, I have some questions for you. I am new to BYC and new to Forums in general. I rescued Mallard ducklings, who a the time were roughly 1 year old, the mother and one baby was hit by a car, and no one stopped besides me. After a couple hours I scouped them up as the temperature was to drop to below 50degrees that night.I believe is one Female Mallard and one male. I have not vent checked to be sure.
Sorry to bother you, but we helped hatch a duckling 11 hrs ago. Its out of shell, but the yolk is still on it and about half inch big. What do I do?

She's doing fine (a lot of peeping). The yolk hasn't soaked in yet. What we're doing is, rapping her up in a rag towel, (putting in the incubator) giving her water with electrolytes in it, and making sure that the temp is at 97.5 and the moisture 70 or 75%. do you have any other solutions?

No, sounds like you are doing what I would do. Make sure the towel stays moist so it doesn't stick tot he yolk and pull it out. You can also post in the Incubating and Hatching Eggs forum for more help! :) Good luck with your duckling!
