    Usually I'm home most of the time but I am actually going to Florida for a week on Feb 2nd. I am in desperate need of some sun before I get a knee replacement on Feb 14th

    We moved here in May and we are just finishing up our pen.Seems like we have been working on one project or another continually since we moved in. We have miniature horses also. I will have to get on here more often- I joined a long time ago but never posted until last week!

    Thanks for the info. I got 2 white leghorns and 2 red leghorns and a barred rock (turns out he is a rooster) from tractor Supply late summer. they are just coming on 5 months.My original group of chickens are somewhere around 7 years old so are not laying as much as they used to.I'd be happy to have you over and meet my chickens. I'm not much of an expert- more just an amateur who learns as I go.

    Hi! I just moved to the West Jefferson area in May 2017. I have had chickens for about 10 years. I was in Raleigh before here and chicken raising was very popular there. We even had a Tour de Coop where we opened up about 15 backyard chicken coops for touring to raise money for Urban Ministries.I'm interested in where to get chickens here besides Tractor Supply.

    I got my starter flock from a breeder in Illinois-Alternative sources of chickens are Craig’s list, FB marketplace for our area & the classifieds at GoAshe, GoWilkes & GoWatauga. All of those are crawling with all kinds in the spring & fall.
    You can also join several FB pages that are livestock communities for Ashe.

    My starter flock was shipped eggs with expected results except of the 10 that hatched 6 are roosters.
    I’m not new to many kinda of animal husbandry but brand new to chickens.
    I’m majoring in a heritage endangered breed called Auburn Javas. That is one of my better roosters as my avatar.
    I’d be blessed to get to know you and maybe you can teach me a bit, I sure have a lot to learn ;)

    They seem to run small batches only and are definitely not one of those large hatcheries.
