Bantam Partridge Wyandotte

I currently have 1 Partridge cockerel, 1 Partridge pullet, 1 Silver Pencilled Pullet and 1 Silver Laced Pullet- all of which are Bantams. Each girl gives me a small creamy/ pink egg everyday without fail and are really dedicated broodys and very protective mothers! They are absolutely stunning to look at (especially the cockerels) and are a very popular breed to show- ideal breed to start showing with. Dazzle, my cockerel is the best cockerel that I could wish for- he is friendly, takes his job to protect the hens very seriously and only crows once every morning at 7.30 am! I found my Wyandottes very easy to sex- particularly the Partridge and Silver pencilled, who I could sex from hatching- the pullets have Egyptian eyeliner and the cockerels don't.

I don't have the partridge, but I do have the blue and Columbian varieties. I love these birds! Definitely one of my favorite breeds. They're good layers of pretty decent sized eggs for a bantam. They're friendly enough. Mine don't care to be picked up, but will settle once I do. I think that's more my fault than the bird's, as I did handle them when they were young, but didn't keep up with it...pretty much all of the breeds I have are like that. Good with kids. Inquisitive. Get along pretty well with others in the flock...they can be a bit bossy at times, but they're not bad about it. They're absolutely beautiful in my opinion...love the curvy shape of their bodies and love those fluffy little butts!

For as long as I keep chickens, I will always have this breed!

I'd love to have the partridge some day.

I sold my breeding flock only because I couldn't find places for the extra cockerels. This is not Wyandotte country. I enjoyed their quiet company, especially the original cock, Chuck. He was so gentle and gorgeous. His sons didn't look like him and were not friendly, but even when grown were never aggressive. This is a great bird for hanging out with. The hens are fantastic mothers. They were fine little layers, too, with more yolk than white in a light-to-medium brown egg. If I could make myself only keep hens, I'd get them again.
