This is by fart he best feeder I've had. I have owned this for over 4+ years, it just works. I live in Arizona so it hot and the heat destroys most everything. Not this feeder though. :). I have 9+ birds, It took them a day or so to figure it out, but once they did my feed cost went down, the amount of feed I was buying is down. There are less native birds around. There is hardly any dropped feed on the ground. You just cant beat it!

Also top notch customer service! I had a question, emailed Al ( i think he's the owner) and with in 30 min i had a answer to my question and couldn't be happier.

This feeder shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. I cant recommend this feeder enough.

Ratproof chicken feeder
Pros: Well built
Sturdy
Cons: None
Takes care of my birds’ needs while keeping waste to a minimum…ordered my second one recently! Quality product, great customer service!
Just an ok feeder
Pros: When it works it's great.
It keeps wild birds out.
Cons: But, after a year there are replacements needed or it doesn't continue to work properly. Plus, adjustments are needed for the door to close just right. I have 2 of these and currently the mice have figured out how to get in. I contacted the owner, but the advice did not solve the problem.

Any chicken smaller than a polish will not be able to use it.
It is cheaply made, but costly.
I'd only give 3 stars as the review didn't expand on much and the feeder is just ok.

You do have to keep springs on the feeders and they are wear items that need replaced from time to time. You must have the soft close version and those were finicky as the back pressure from the soft close kit was making the doors harder to close. There is a fix though. Email me and I can send the hole drilling layout to convert your old feeders into the new dual spring version. No way in heck a mouse is getting into the feeder with double springs. You basically pull the top front cover and drill four holes to hook the springs into, drill one hole in the door, add the springs, and install the front cover. A five minute job once you have the tools at hand. You will need to buy a pack of replacement springs, three to a pack, with shipping is around $8.60.

The feeder costs $85.00 for the much improved current version (as of November 2020), not $125.00 per feeder, with shipping costs maybe, but the base cost is $85.00 for the standard feeder, $100.00 for the soft close feeder. We have nothing to do with how far a customer is nor do we control the cost of shipping or our dollar being devalued through inflation. If you don't want to pay high shipping, buy a feeder from Amazon where you will pay even more because the shipping is subsidized and built into the price. Or buy from a local company.

And yes, the soft close feeder door takes some tinkering once you have added the treadle and wire link and we even say that in our sales descriptions, we even recommend using a standard feeder if you are not handy. However people tend not to read the descriptions.

Mice getting in, nope, isn't happening unless the spring is gone or the mice get in when a chicken is eating. The door is spring loaded and yes, you HAVE to keep the spring in place and YES they do wear out. Some last for year like in this negative review above, others last for years, others break in six months or less, it mostly depends on if the customer READS the warning on the instructions to adjust the spring to prevent the door from slamming too hard. You have to keep the spring in place or the feeder door will not close and then the mice can get inside. No different from a car, if you don't keep all the bits in place and gas in the tank, it ain't gonna work.

Springs are a buck each, three in a pack, plus extortionate U.S. mail shipping that is 150% the cost of the springs themselves.

The feeder is cheaply made, on purpose, it started out as a $65.00 feeder for the low end of the market to compete against the then $240.00 made in China grandpa feeder. It went up to $70 around 2019 or so, then up to $85.00 for the American made current version due to the price of materials doubling, now tripling in October of 2021. Once travel reopens to the Philippines I will restart production of the Philippines made feeders which ought to help hold the line on costs IF the shipping container prices drop from their current triple costs since 2018.

But the feeder holds up for years, will not jam closed, and it actually works. We warn people with OCD not to buy our feeder, spend the money on the Chinese made Grandpa feeder which has good fit and finish but be sure and read the negative reviews before you buy!
