Programmable chicken coop door opener.

Pros: Works very well.
Cons: It’s expensive, especially considering you still have to build the door and frame to hold the sliding door in place.
chickens tucked safely away each night, and have access to the yard in the morning - and I don’t Even have to be there. It’s great, it works perfectly. We used an old cookie sheet for the door.

Pros: Works very well once set up, the door was fairly easy to install and it slides up and down smoothly. It seems very sturdy and I like the locking mechanism so I don't have to worry about something pushing it up.
Cons: It was tricky to get programmed correctly from the instructions. It took us several days to get it opening and closing as we wanted and it was not intuitive.
Overall I am am very happy with this door and opener. Its really nice to know if I don't make it home by dark that the girls are safely locked up and I don't worry about them getting noisy in the morning looking to be let out. The lock mechanism works well and its not going to get pushed open, and the door slides smoothly in its tracks. We had a bit of an issue getting it programmed, but once we got it down its worked well.

No regrets, I love it. Easy to program and use right out of the box.

Extremely happy with this purchase. Yes it was on the expensive side but it makes maintaining your flock so much easier that it was well worth it. Programming was super easy and installation was easy as well.

I bought a chickenguard because my coop with a small roofed run is rather small for 6 chickens to stay in for several hours. The run is quite safe but i fear not safe enough for predators that come in the night.
The chicken guard makes it possible fot the chickens to enter the run in the morning after the suns comes up and iit closes automaticly at nightfall.

The system was expensive and not easy to install. But now it works perfect and I am very happy with it.

"...it's no burden for our neighbours to to take care of our flock. The only have to supply fresh water and food once a day. In return the get the eggs. The only problem since we have this opener is, that we have a lot of neighbours who like to babysit my chickens. "

It's funny, but I have the same 'problem' since my chickens became easy to look after! ;)

I love mine! I am going to try to add a door. The only problem I've had was when the side broke off the spool and the door stopped. Once I figure out the problem, I used Krazy glue, and it has been working like a charm! You still have to keep your eyes open, just in case.

The newly redesigned ChickenGuard automatic chicken coop door opener has been released this month, May 2017. You can check them out on the website, and use the store locator to find locally: www.chickenguardian.com I'll try to get these images updated on BYC.

When I saw the pic at first I thought it was something to kill a chicken with, cause of the metal door and the chicken right under it. Oops! Glad I looked twice...:D

This happened to me as well, it's causing my spool to mess up and I have to go out and run the line all the way out and then put it all back in. How'd you crazy glue it? Just around the outside of the metal piece?

I have tried and tried to get the Sensor to work for opening and closing and failed. The Help from Chickenguard suggests that I need to change my open and close values to make the numbers at other extremes otherwise the Sensor cannot determine between open and close. I have reverted to Manual now but would only paid extra for the Premium version because I wanted to operate with the sensor.

The opener works as advertised but I went away from a string opener for two reasons:
1. If the string breaks the door can close and trap chickens inside and that can be dealt in summer. I used a heavy duty fishing line to get around the problem.
2. The door isn’t a positive lock. It closes by the weight of the door. In February of 2019, I had a dog jump two fences and get into the coop by pushing the pop door up. I lost 18 hens in about two minutes.
This door is great if you have a tall fence or a solid cover to keep larger four legged predators out.

Good point on the "string", I may replace it with some Power Pro Braid. Hard to imagine a dog able and smart enough to push up the door, enter the coop, kill the chickens, and then push up the door, again. This dog might be able to turn a door knob as well!:lau

This dog flipped the door up and went in the coop. Killed 18 hens, and went back out. A hungry dog is motivated and smart enough to push up a door. He was captured, retrained, rehabilitated, and rehomed..

Still have the same chickenguard. Needs new batteries about every 1.5 years.

Once the system got stuck because the rope got wet after a leakage. Opened it, letting it dry and re-installed. After completing the installation it worked again.

It broke down after 7,5 years.
