The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and Araucanas, then bred with many different breeds so they no longer fit either breed's standards. They usually have muffs and pea combs, but come in nearly every variety and color, some even have ear tufts or are rumpless. Each EE is different, but overall they are usually a smaller bird that lays pink, green, or blue eggs. They are normally friendly and calm, and their colorful eggs make them a popular choice in backyard flocks.

I feel bad that I have to give this chicken a 3-star.....
Pros: Cute fluffy cheeks, pretty eggs, small comb
Cons: Super skittish, not afraid to stand their ground
On all websites I've visited says that easter eggers are one of the sweetest chicken breeds you can get. Yes, that can be true....But all chicken's personalities vary! I can barely get close to my easter egger, she startles when I make the slightest movement. She is not afraid to stand up for herself. She will fight. She fights with a hen that is twice the size as her. On the other hand, she lays pretty eggs and her face is cute. She only has 2 friends in my entire flock, they were in the same batch. She only really hangs out with the chickens her age. She has a very weird laying time, will lay all throughout summer, and after Winter she starts back up again very early, about February.

One of my very favorites!
Pros: Good layers, lay large pretty eggs, generally very healthy, cold hardy, heat tolerant, small for a standard chicken, so many colors!
Cons: They can fly high and tend to wander, can be skittish, often mislabeled
Easter Eggers are one of my very favorite chickens. I've found them to be the healthiest chickens I've raised and they live a long time. They lay lots of large and jumbo eggs and continue to lay a decent amount when they're older. Because they are mixes you never know what color you are going to get or if they'll have beards or not or what color eggs they are going to lay which is exciting to me. You can usually easily tell individuals apart too. They are on the small side for a standard chicken so they probably don't eat as much as, say, a dual purpose breed, but their size and weight allow them to fly quite well which can be a problem if you're trying to keep them within a fenced area or catch them.

Easter Eggers are one of my favorite breeds, and I wanted to get them for a while. I got 3 chicks a week ago, and I absolutely love them! Very sweet and adventurous. Would recommend to a first time chicken owner.

I can't say for sure. It might be a recessive gene but I have one that is beardless and she also has brown eyes instead of orange.

Well I bought 4 little girl chicks from a fellow BYCer yesterday 2 weeks old and I can tell ya this they are precious, I have always wanted some so I am thrilled to now have them.

I've had a sweet EE hen, a friendly EE hen, and a nutty, totaly crazy EE hen who fights with the roosters.

Personalities are totally based on how they are raised and how often they are handled, maybe a little genetic with breeds though...easter eggers could mixes of anything.

i don't see how my handling of her made her crazy. while handling certainly has an effect, you cannot change a bird's underlying personality. an aggressive chicken will be mean whether or not she was handled.

I agree Coopacabana Im sure your handling had nothing to do with a "crazy" chicken. I believe handling or lack of will make them either friendlier toward what they know like people sounds other pets or what ever else they are exposed to and things they dont know about they prob would be timid shy nervous etc not aggressive. My little bugger was latching on to faces on day 3 of its life and put into "timeout" for a week after that. Shes now back in the mix with the others and now that the other ones are more assertive she has backed down 90% of the time. The other 2 are warming up to my hand and jump on occasionally. I also agree with Whittni that its gotta be in the mixes what ever they are crossed with gives them part of there personality hence another reason all easter eggers are different.

I have 3 EE's that are a week old can't wait until i see what color they turn out to be and what color eggs they lay

Where did you get them they are gorgeous, I would love to get me some of these, where could I get easter eggers?

I have just added 2 Easter Eggers and 1 Welsummer to my flock. I am hoping to get a lot of pretty eggs and the girls have been a treat so far!

Well, I got mine from a lady who breeds these specifically in her flock. I'm sure you could find someone in your area who does this also. It helps to check the 'Where are you' pages in the forums here. You could probably ask in there about anyone who breeds these in your area. They are pretty common. The last time I was at TSC, I saw they had some baby easter eggers for sale. I didn't check to see what colors they offered though. If you can't find a local person to purchase them from, I'd try there if there's one in your area!

I understand that the egg color gene is contained in the roo's DNA, so I sellect the roos that hatched from the prettyest colored eggs. I have about 40 easter egger hens and 7 roosters. I have a lot f different colored EE, but Black seems to be a dominate feather color. Glad to be able to talk to other chicken lovers! Thanks, Celie

I have a easter egger and I know nothing about her I got her for free from my hatchery when I got my solman faveralle but I know nothing about EE's can you share with me anything I should know.
